About the Speaker - Dan Burns, CFA

For over a decade, Dan has conducted bottom-up, fundamental research on equity securities and is currently a portfolio manager & investment analyst at Avalon Trust, an independent asset management firm that manages customized portfolios for high net worth individuals, families, private foundations, and non-profits.  During his time at Avalon Trust, assets under management have increased from approximately $400 million to almost $2.0 billion today.  His responsibilities at Avalon include coverage of the Health Care, Financials, and Real Estate sectors.  Dan has earned the CFA designation and is a member of the CFA Society of New Mexico.

Prior to Avalon Trust, he also conducted bottom-up fundamental research at Beekman Capital, an institutional growth stock manager.  He was a voting member of Beekman Capital’s investment committee, which reviewed ideas from all sectors of the equity markets for inclusion in the firm’s client portfolios.  He holds a MBA with a concentration in Finance from the University of Texas – Austin. Prior to his work in the asset management industry, he worked in public accounting, most recently at Deloitte & Touche in San Francisco, where he provided tax advice to Fortune 500 corporations, private equity groups, hedge funds and high net worth individuals.  Dan was certified as a CPA (certified public accountant) in 2005.
